I personally feel like if God thought our physical appearance was so important for us to be aware of then mirrors would be a part of human nature. Fixed into the sky by force and created on the 7th day instead of Him resting.

But everything was good.

God doesn’t accidentally leave stuff out or make mistakes. And it’s not like there’s a chance He forgot to add something because He was on the lookout for any corrections to be made. When He saw Adam was alone He wasn’t happy with this and so along came the creation of Eve. He saw that problem and solved it. That was the only issue.
He didn’t look and think mmm but they can’t see what they look like properly so perhaps I should create a glass coated surface which reflects a clear image for them to efficiently analyse every feature I’ve designed for them 🙂 .

We did that. Mmhm. Humans. Back at it again with the unnecessary inventions. Like what do mirrors even do for us? You’ve put on an outfit and now you’re critically analysing yourself to see if you look alright. Front, then turn and check the back and make sure you’re looking good from all angles. Does the Bible even describe what Adam and Eve looked like? Nope. Let’s have a look at other characters. Jonah…King David…Abraham…Paul…Nope. Why’s that now?

Because it doesn’t matter.

Blonde or dark blue hair this woman still ate from the apple. Nose piercing or ankle swingers Adam still followed after her.

This World is so concerned with how people look now that whether or not an employer hires you is already decided before you’ve shaken their hand. Walk into the office with your afro hair and you may as well start typing out your resignation letter because of course the afro has absorbed all your professionalism and knowledge so you’re now useless.

If someone asked me to draw God I really couldn’t. Even Jesus I’d be shuffling. Maybe force that generic bearded face that is internationally recognised but generally speaking, it’d be difficult.

Not much emphasis is put into what God physically looks like. It’s more about who He is. What He’s done. How He makes us feel.

Genesis 1:27:- So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Okay so apparently we all even look like Him. Both male and female? How does that work? I barely look like my Dad let alone the whole of mankind- and then now we altogether look like God?

It’s because God’s image isn’t his shape-up or his Armani jeans (can you imagine). It’s His love.

1 John 4:8:- Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

He IS love. And if we’re made in His image then…we’re love too.

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not boastful; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. (1 Cor 13:4-8)

CONCLUSION:

The next time you stare into a mirror and don’t see these attributes staring back at you, go back into your wardrobe and fish them out. Swap the envy for patience and get some kindness in size 7.

The world tries to make us fulfil a certain criteria to be appealing to someone, but all that matters is that we reflect God.

Because God is love.
